Our surroundings are more than the physical buildings.
They are a collection of our experiences.
This is where my love of illustration started, and Accidental Vix Prints was born…

A place that will always have my heart, not only for the music and amazing buskers as you walk down the street, but because it is where I met my husband and where we first lived together.
Picture a hot sunny day in summer (we do get them occasionally in the north of England) with the familiar sound of gulls breezing through the air, buzz of people strolling through the vibrant streets, and the smell of the most incredible sweet (and savoury) treats that Liverpool has to offer… all in the company of the amazing ladies on an ‘in colourful company’ colour walk full of bright, bold and charismatic characters as I documented this incredible Northern city.
Home sweet home.
All my illustrations come to life in some form or other from my creative corner of Ilkley, with the wind often howling down the valley, drowning in dramatic views of the moors and cow and calf rocks, as the River Wharfe rushes through.
Yorkshire has the nickname ‘God’s Own Country’ for good reason.
Where else can you stroll by the canal as the river rages in the background, tend to veg under the shadow of a mill chimney, and find one of the most unusual churches as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site? That’s before even mentioning a canal side stroll after a stop to refuel with an ice-cream from a canal boat!
As well as housing several universities, being the birthplace of Marks & Spencer in Kirkgate Market and Cuthbert Brodrick’s Corn Exchange and Town Hall, Leeds has one of the biggest shopping areas in the UK with 3.5million feet of retail space.
Apart from being the place I call home, Yorkshire is the biggest county in England so there are many places on my list to get to once out of lockdown and pandemic life. This is an ever growing collection of my favourite places near home.
Thank you to Mark Settle for his photography skills
There are so many places in the UK alone that I want to illustrate that when I get commissions it’s great to discover new places as well give some direction to which spaces to choose to sketch next. But, most importantly I get to discover the story and connection that people have to these places, and to share in these particular memories.
